As a speaker, one of the things that you should always improve on is your vocabulary. It is okay to stick with common words depending on who your audience is going to be but when you are speaking in front of an articulate crowd, you want to be understood properly. The main thing that you have to remember is you have to be committed to learning new words. It may seem tedious in the beginning but as you begin to find new words that you can use well, it will be a fun activity for you too.

Researching about the usual terms used before contacting to check the backgrounds of potential employees will truly help a lot.   1. Make sure that you have a dictionary handy at home. If you have a lot of books at home but you do not have a dictionary, you may end up just second guessing what other words mean. You may also want to have a thesaurus if in case you want to know possible synonyms or antonyms of the words that you want to include in your dictionary.
  2. Learn one word every day. You may want to learn as many words as you can every day but if you do this, the time will come when you will not even remember what the words mean. Just start with one word every day and you will be surprised with the number of words you will learn.
  3. Play games that will improve your skills in learning new words. For example, you may play scrabble because this will help you form words even when the letters that are given to you are limited. If there are other people who are also interested in learning new words, you may want to play games with them too.
  4. It seems so simple, right? In the world that we live in today, a lot of people dislike reading because they feel that there are other things that are worth doing but reading can do different things to you. Aside from enhancing your vocabulary, you can also improve your imagination. The more that you uncover different books and works, the more that you will be hooked with reading.
  5. Start a journal. You may think that this is not an exciting thing to do or you may say that the last time you have done this was a long time ago. You can start again now so that you will begin to learn more in the long run.
