This week, we’re featuring a panel discussion on the origins and influence of tradition, with biological anthropologist Greg Laden, science education researcher Marie-Claire Shanahan, and primatologist Eric Michael Johnson. We’ll discuss where traditions come from, why some endure and some fade, and whether they appear in non-human populations. (Ethnomusicologist Kyra Gaunt-Palmer was unable to join us.)

Has any of you read the book, “When They Severed Earth From Sky” by Barber and Barber? If so, what did you think of the book?

Hello!
First of all, I enjoyed this episode tremendously. As an aspiring cultural/linguistic anthropologist, I felt the panel would have been complete with a cultural anthropologist! Bummed that didn’t happen, but overall the talk was great! Thanks for another brain stimulating episode.

Thanks for your comment, Priscilla. It’s a big topic, and we were trying to focus on some maybe less obvious aspects. I’m glad you enjoyed the discussion!

Priscilla, we had planned to have Kyra Gaunt-Palmer, but she could not do it. I also originally wanted to have Iain Davidson, but he was travelling.
But may be this show will become a tradition and we can do it again!
